To promote its new range of 3D displays, Samsung has teamed up with Great Guns and ENVY to produce a 3D promotional video featuring stars from the Premiership-winning Chelsea team. Over 40 hours of footage including scenes with Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Yuri Zhirkov and manager Carlo Ancelotti were shot over the two day shoot at Chelsea’s training ground using four cameras set up by 3D stereographers Chris Parks and Angus Cameron.
The promo was posted at ENVY where rushes were ingested into Avid Media Composer Mojo DX and a stereoscopic offline was prepared for director Mr Sunderland and DoP August Jacobbson to pick the best shots. “Having it in the offline so the client could see it in 3D every step of the way really helped,” reveals head of VFX Marcus Dryden. Finished on Smoke and Autodesk, Envy benefitted from access to advance versions of next year’s releases which include useful stereoscopic toolsets. With effects and graphics added the left and right eye channels were combined with Inition’s StereoBrain 3D processor to produce 3D images on Envy’s stereoscopic monitor.
“Everything is more challenging with 3D post but the end results are worth it,” declares Envy head of technical operations Daniel Sassen.
